Local government budgets have been drastically cut in recent years but councils still oversee substantial sums of money. By making conscious choices about the services they commission and the goods they procure, their spending power can be used to develop and boost the local economy, create more social outcomes, co-produce public services and integrate with the budgets of other anchor institutions to build local supply chains.
